Fahy heads to Bahamas for labour talks

Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy

Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy is travelling to the Bahamas today to attend the Ninth International Labour Meeting.

The meeting will be attended by labour ministers from across the Caribbean and will take place tomorrow and Wednesday.

“I am particularly interested in exploring ideas regarding collaboration, as well as how full implementation of ILO [International Labour Organisation] guidelines has benefited labour relations in other jurisdictions,” Sen Fahy said.

“This is especially important as the ministry continues its work on rewriting Bermuda’s outdated legislation.”

Mr Fahy will be joined by his acting permanent secretary, Danette Ming.

A government spokeswoman said that all associated costs, including flights, hotel and food, will be covered by the ILO.

The meeting will bring together ministers with responsibility for labour, permanent secretaries and high-level officials of the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean, as well as representatives of the Caribbean Congress of Labour and the Caribbean Employers’ Confederation.
