Bermudian businessman Scott Hunter is to retire from the board of insurer and reinsurer Allied World at the end of next month.

Mr Hunter joined the board of the firm in 2006 and has served as chairman and co-chairman of the audit committee.

He was also a member of the compensation, enterprise risk, investment and nominating and corporate governance committees.

Allied World president, chairman and CEO Scott Carmilani said: “Scott Hunter’s industry knowledge, and particularly his insights into corporate finance and accounting matters, contributed valuably to our board discussions and we’ll miss his advice and wisdom along the way.

“He played an important role in our development during a period which included our initial public offering and our growth into a global specialty insurance and reinsurance company. We thank him for his service.”

Mr Hunter will remain on the board of Allied World Assurance Company (Europe) Ltd, the company’s Irish insurance subsidiary.
