Minors grabs gold in Boston

Dage Minors won the 800 metres at the 47th New England NEICAAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston University.

The Bermudian middle distance runner, a sophomore at Franklin Pierce University, was second in the preliminaries with a time of 1:51.83, with the winning time being 1:50.49.

However, Minors pulled out all the stops to win Saturday’s final in 1:51.71, while Kevin Desmond of Southern Maine was second in 1:52.38 and Andre Rollim of American International third in 1:52.95. Franklin Pierce finished 15th overall out of the 33 men’s teams.

On Sunday, Minors placed seventh in the 800m at the Boston University’s Last Chance Meet, running a faster time of 1:50.92 which ended up being the 11th best time in the country, though he has run a faster time this season.

Minors is presently ranked eighth in the country in the 800m and his time qualified him for the NCAA Championships, which will be held on March 13 and 14 in Birmingham, Alabama.
