My name is Jordan Swan and I volunteer for the Bermuda Red Cross. The Bermuda Red Cross is a non-profit charity that helps people in Bermuda and from all around the world with their needs. I only work in one part of Bermuda Red Cross, which is the Thrift Shop.

The Thrift Shop has a variety of second-hand clothing but sometimes we can get some amazing stuff in there, such as name brands like Nike, Adidas, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Coach, Gucci, Prada and many more.

In the Thrift Shop we have a cashier and the volunteers in the back who sort out all of the clothes that are donated, and I am just one of the many that do that. But I am the first and only boy to work at the Bermuda Red Cross Upstairs Closet and I was the youngest person to ever volunteer at the Thrift Shop.

I started to volunteer at the Red Cross when I was 12 years old and I have been there for almost two years on March 25. I love the ladies in the back and they treat me like a son. They love me and care for me and whenever I am there they always ask me: “Do you want a hot chocolate and cookie?” I never can resist that. Some of the jobs I do at Red Cross include taking out trash, bagging up clothes, hanging clothes, and eat a lot of goodies.

If you haven’t been to the Upstairs Closet you have to come as we have some great deals all the time. Sometimes we have men’s shirts for $1, which is an amazing deal.

One of my favourite people at the Thrift Shop is Maria Duffy. She is so nice to me and whenever I am there she makes me work but at the end she does it for a reason to get me in the habit of working in the real world and shows me what work will be like when I am older.

The worst part of the job that I don’t like doing is bringing up bags of clothes from the basement. They can weigh so much. The ladies in the back were amazing when I went on a mission trip and took soccer stuff. I had ended up with a few cases. Once a year we have a fashion show and silent auction and I modelled last year an Adidas tracksuit with Diesel shirt and True Religion jeans and it sold in ten minutes. Come visit us at the Upstairs Closet Thrift Shop on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:30am to 3pm. I would love to see you on a Saturday at the Bermuda Red Cross Thrift Shop.
