Bermuda have named six players in their 23-man squad to face Turks and Caicos Islands tomorrow who could make their international debuts, with Roedolf van der Westhuizen, the coach, among them.

Van der Westhuizen is one of three new faces in the forwards, alongside Chris Stafford and Richard Howells, while John Quigley, Nigel Burgess and Patrick Calow are named in a back division that is a mixture of pace and power.

Despite the introduction of six new players, the squad has a balanced look that Van der Westhuizen believes is the best it has been in three seasons, and the coaching staff are looking forward to the team’s “hard work pay off on the field.”

Paul Dobinson, Mike Williams and Dustin Archibald provide plenty of experience in the front row, while Peter Dunkerley, the captain, will marshall the forwards from No 8.

In the backs, Quigley has recovered from a hamstring injury and is expected to form a strong partnership with Tommy Edwards in the centres.

“The coaching team believe they have all best players available in the squad, and the best possible 23 were selected for the coming game,” the Bermuda Rugby Football Union said in a statement last night. “The squad’s preparation has gone to plan and the coaches feel the team is ready for the job at hand.”

* Bermuda’s game against TCI kicks off at 4pm, with gates opening at North Field at 11.30am with several youth and women’s games being played before the main event.
