Self-righteous: the attitude of some guests

Dear Sir,

I wish to speak to the underlying attitudes expressed through your medium by some of the non-Bermudian guests (most recently, EX-PAT, a self-confessed foreign investor in Bermuda).

The expressed attitudes by EX-PAT and other individuals in this small sub-set of non-Bermudians towards their host Bermudians are haughty, self-righteous, impolite and really most vexing.

Where does such audacity spring from?

Oh well, I have a sense of it. Some who are curious about the source and cause of such attitudes may wish to read JA Rogers findings expressed in From Superman to Man.

It would seem that such non-Bermudian guests prefer to see themselves as benefactors to Bermuda, when in truth, they are here to extract a profit for themselves, or to further their own narrow interests in any possible way.

Those type of individuals (and let us be clear, it is not all non-Bermudians in Bermuda) should simply make/take their money and go back from whence they came. Their negative comments and attitudes are unhelpful here and in truth, such behaviour would be unhelpful anywhere else in world neighbourhoods and communities that seek progressive development.

Bermudians built this country. Yes, it was aided by foreign investors and guest workers. But, we did it and continue so to do, no matter the present issues.

But Sir, that is a global truth. Every country in the world has benefitted from the partnership from other countries in its own development.

So my view is that if guests have nothing positive to offer in their statements about Bermuda and Bermudians in the daily medium, it is perhaps better to express themselves about issues in their own countries.

While such guests may not believe it, we in Bermuda can resolve our challenges. And, positive comments and suggestions from genuine global partners at all levels will always be welcomed.
