PHC edge Chicas in nailbiter

PHC Zebras took a giant step towards landing a third successive Women’s Futsal League title after coming from behind to edge nearest rivals CP Chicas 4-3 in a nailbiter at Warwick Academy Gymnasium on Saturday.

The two times defending champions prevailed on Aaliyah Nolan’s hat trick and a strike from Jessica Furtado.

Cleshaunay Virgil-Darrell, the league’s top scorer, Hana Bushaar and Shantae Todd replied for league newcomers Chicas who blew a 2-1 lead at the break.

Chicas frustrated the champions for long spells but failed to convert several chances either side of the half to build up a commanding lead and ultimately paid the price.

PHC eventually awoke from their slumber in the second half and took control of proceedings to extend their unbeaten streak - that stretches over two years - and remain firmly on course to defend their title.

There were no other matches played on Saturday.

Hamilton Parish forfieted their match with third placed Dandy Stars after they were unable to field a team while the match featuring Somerset and Young Men’s Social Club was not played due to the funeral of former Somerset Cricket Club president Colin Smith.

This Saturday will see Hamilton Parish tackle Chicas, Somerset will do battle with Dandy Stars while Young Men’s Social Club have been pitted with PHC.

Action gets under way at 5pm.
