A Devonshire man denied unlawfully assaulting a woman and threatening her with a machete when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Troyan Smith, 21, allegedly assaulted Coreen Scott and did her bodily harm in Devonshire on March 6.

Mr Smith is also charged with behaving in a threatening manner by wielding a machete in her direction on the same date.

Magistrate Archibald Warner granted $2,000 bail on the condition that Mr Smith stay away from the complainant.

Mr Smith elected to be tried in Magistrates’ Court and a trial date was set for June 17.
