Brown’s portrait to join Cabinet collection

Former premier Dr Ewart Brown’s official portrait is to be unveiled at the Cabinet building this week, the Progressive Labour Party has announced.

The painting is by Bermudian artist Che Caines and has been done in oils in a photorealistic style. It will join the portraits of Mr Brown’s predecessors in the lobby of the building, which houses the Senate Chamber and the Premier’s office.

Dr Brown said: “Our period in office was characterised by action and execution with a special emphasis on giving opportunities to those who regardless of their intellect and talent, had been denied in the past.

“We chose to support a young Bermudian talent and I am extremely pleased with the result.

“I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve as Bermuda’s Premier, for the work that was achieved and for the people who helped to make it possible. I am looking forward to sharing this very special occasion with the old Cabinet team, former Parliament colleagues, supporters, family and friends.

“While one man’s picture goes on the wall, it was the work of many that made it all possible.”

The portrait will be unveiled at 1pm on Friday.
