The trial of two men charged with the murder of Haile Outerbridge and Ricco Furbert continued yesterday, with the jury seeing CCTV footage of the shooting.

Christoph Duerr, 26, from Sandys, and Le-Veck Roberts, 21, from Warwick, are charged with the premeditated murders of both men, who were shot dead inside Belvin’s Variety on the evening of January 23, 2013.

Mr Roberts is also charged with attempting to kill Zico Majors on January 16, 2013, in the Khyber Heights area of Warwick; taking a vehicle without consent on the same day; and taking a vehicle without lawful authority on the day of the murders.

Prosecutors allege that Mr Roberts was the gunman in both shootings, while Mr Duerr is believed to have stored and supplied the weapon used.

Earlier in the trial, three witnesses who were inside Belvin’s at the time of the shooting testified that Mr Furbert had been walking towards the door of the store to leave when he then turned and shouted: “They’re outside, they’re outside. They’ve got guns.”

Both he and Mr Outerbridge ran towards a store room at the rear of the building as a man wearing a black, full-face helmet entered the store with a firearm. The third man walked to the store room and opened fire before leaving.

As the trial continued in Supreme Court yesterday, detective constable Nigel Richardson took the stand and said that on the evening of the shooting he went to the scene and collected discs from two digital video recorders on the property.

The jury were shown footage from four CCTV cameras inside and outside of the store from the night of the shooting.

A man inside the store wearing a red jacket is seen to walk towards the door. He opens it but then stands in the doorway. At the same time, cameras outside the store recorded three motorcycles travelling west along Happy Valley Road.

Seconds later, a figure wearing a black helmet and blue clothing runs from the west side of the building and towards the store’s entrance.

The man at the doorway turns and runs into the store, heading straight towards a store room in the rear of the building with the person in blue just behind him. Before the figure in blue leaves the frame, he extends his arm towards the store room with what appears to be a firearm in his hand.

Seconds later, the figure in blue runs back into frame and towards the door, pushing past another person at the doorway. As he runs out, a motorcycle is seen pulling into the parking lot from the eastand turning around.

The gunman leaves the store, running to the east of the building, while the figure on the motorcycle rides in the same direction.

Mr Richardson also told the court that he had extracted data from cell phones associated with the case — including two photographs of The Royal Gazette’s front page taken the morning after the shooting.

The trial continues.
