Firefighters alerted twice on Sunday night

Firefighters dealt with two blazes last night.

The first incident involved a house fire at #3 Oriel Lane, Sandys.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at about 8:42pm.

Sergeant Russann Francis, Fire Service spokesperson, said the smouldering fire produced excessive smoke, but was confined to a trash bin.

“There was smoke damage throughout the kitchen and firefighters performed salvage duties by extracting the heat and smoke from the kitchen area,” he said.

There were no injuries.

At about 9pm, firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at a property at 9 Windwood Drive in Pembroke.

“The fire which was contained to the panelling surrounding the sauna had been extinguished by the occupants of the residence with a dry chemical powder extinguisher,” said Francis.

“On our arrival, firefighters performed salvage duties to extract the excess smoke and powder residue throughout the basement level of the residence.

There were no injuries at this incident.”

Francis said anyone interested in taking a Fire Extinguisher Training Course should contact the Fire Service at 292-5555.
