Ascendant shares fall 5.5%

Shares of Belco’s parent company Ascendant Group fell by more than 5 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading today.

Ascendant slid 30 cents or 5.5 per cent, to close on $5.20 as 3,100 shares changed hands.

Bermuda Press Holdings Ltd, which owns this newspaper, as well as commercial printing, retail and real estate interests, fell 50 cents, or 6.7 per cent, on the trading of 500 shares, to close on $7.

Butterfield Bank was unchanged on $1.98 as 11,830 of its shares were exchanged.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 3.19 points, or 0.23 per cent, to close on 1,358.68. Trading volume was 15,827 shares, while turnover topped $43,400.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 7.79 points, or 0.5 per cent, to close the day on 1,556.36.
