Emergency services responded to reports of a distress flare in the east end on Saturday.

According to Bermuda Marine Operations, a single red marine distress flare was spotted in the area of St David’s Lighthouse by several people in St George’s and St David’s.

A spokesman said: “Bermuda Radio made several urgent broadcasts requesting any vessels needing assistance to make contact and via Bermuda Police Service, dispatched a patrol car to the area to investigate but received no replies or reports of any vessel in the area needing assistance.

“No vessels were observed from the lighthouse area nor visible from the RCC. With no reports of anyone in distress, Bermuda Radio cancelled the broadcasts without further incident.”
