Beyond the call of duty

Dear Sir,

I want to draw attention to the amazing service provided by an employee of the ferry service in Hamilton.

On our recent visit my wife and I attempted to catch the last Pink Line ferry from Hamilton to the Belmont stop in Warwick only to find that it was out of service due an electrical problem.

The service desk employee was delightful and she seemed genuinely embarrassed for the mechanical problem. Rather than just turn us away, she was very helpful in directing us to the bus terminal. She also made sure we had the correct tickets and that we understood the bus schedule.

When we mentioned this to the other guests at our B&B, they too encountered the same problem the night before and this same woman was on duty at the counter.

After closing up, she drove them in her own vehicle to the B&B as one of the guests had difficulty walking. They felt that was a wonderful thing to do and definitely above and beyond the call of duty.

On our last night in Bermuda, we again encountered a delay with the ferry. While waiting, we ended up chatting with a resident about all our experiences with this woman.

He mentioned that he had a similar experience when she also drove him home to Warwick.

What was even more remarkable was that he discovered that she lived in the opposite direction in St George’s!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get her name but I am sure you can track her down.

She is a fine example of the helpfulness and hospitality of Bermudians. She certainly takes customer service to a whole new level.

No wonder we love to return to Bermuda again and again.
