Under-18 side taste victory

Bermuda under-18 girls’ rugby team put their new-found skills to the test in a mini tournament on Monday.

The squad, many of whom only started playing the game at the beginning of the year, took on The Harvey School from New York at Police Field.

Bermuda came out on top in two of the three games that were played, winning a sevens encounter 15-0, with tries from Daesha Smith, Emily Sinclair and Najee Pitt Clarke, and a ten-a-side match 25-0, in which Smith and Pitt-Clarke scored two tries apiece, and Haley Place, the Bermuda captain, also got on the scoresheet.

Earlier in the day, the 23-strong Harvey School squad played a sevens game against each other, before beating Bermuda 10-5 in the first of their games. Claudia Smith and Alexis Palmer scored for Harvey, while Place got Bermuda’s try.

The mini tournament was the culmination of a four day trip for the Harvey School girls, who also got the chance to do some training on the beach, visit Dockyard, take a PE lesson at Gilbert Institute, and help clean up the Island with KBB.
