First-class care at hospital

King Edward VII Memorial Hospital

Dear Sir,

In mid-February I was involved in a life-threatening medical situation and for five days I was unable to wash or shave and couldn’t reach the telephone which was in another room.

Eventually thanks to my boss at work and my landlord, the ambulance was called and I was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The emergency staff were excellent as they quickly tried to figure out what the problem was and I was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The first doctors to see me were Dr Orimoloye and Dr Outerbridge and thanks to their wonderful treatment within two days I was on the road to recovery. I also want to thank Dr West and Dr Dyer as well as Dr Tomar and Dr Lafferty. I would also like to give praise to the nursing staff in the ICU for their care and compassion, they were my Angelo.

So after a week in Intensive Care, I was transferred to the Catlin Lindo Ward where I was looked after by a first-class team of nurses from Bermuda and around the world.

By this time I had never felt better in my life.

I was in a new wing with a spotlessly clean room like a hotel, I had no pain and a ferocious appetite and was able to enjoy all of my meals.

Thanks also goes to the dietary section, housekeeping, the Pink Ladies and the nurses aides. Then I had the pleasure of a visit from the Hospital Chief of Staff and the Head of Nursing and I was able to tell them that they should be proud of their doctors and nurses.

My final observation is that there is no need to go overseas for medical treatment when you can receive the best of care right here in Bermuda at the King Edward Hospital.

Having travelled on this long and winding road to better health I am so grateful to the hospital team and can say you realise how precious life is, when you are given a second chance.
