Transfer deals make Rec promotion favourites

On the move: Chris Douglas

A total of 29 players have been approved for transfer by the Bermuda Cricket Board’s executive after Tuesday’s deadline, with some big name moves in that list.

As reported by The Royal Gazette on Thursday, Oronde Bascome has departed St George’s for Southampton Rangers along with Hasan Durham from PHC.

Willow Cuts have lost four players with Malachi Jones going to Bailey’s Bay and Chris Douglas and Ricardo Brangman heading to First Division side Devonshire Rec, who will be one of the favourites for promotion.

Chris Foggo was rumoured to be heading to St George’s but has signed for Cleveland County instead, while Shaquille Jones has not sought a transfer from Willow Cuts. It had been suggested that he was headed back to Somerset.

Willow Cuts have picked up Ryane Shepherd from Somerset Bridge and Tyshaun Brown from neighbours Somerset Cricket Club.

Other interesting moves see seam bowler David Bedard returning to promoted Flatts from Bailey’s Bay, while Bennett Phipps has joined Flatts from St George’s. M’kai Hodsoll had rejoined St George’s from Bailey’s Bay, along with Kai Hollis and Ryan Steede, who is returning to St George’s to take up the post of player coach.

Western Stars, who have Wendell Smith as their new coach, have just two new signings, Darius Usher from Devonshire Rec and Swayne Campbell who is back after a stint at St George’s.

Devonshire Rec were the busiest in the transfer period, signing seven new players, including Levar Talbot from Cleveland, Shaquille Trott from PHC and Ajuan Lamb from St David’s, who will open the defence of their league title with the bulk of last season’s team.
