PHC win title without having to kick a ball

Off the ball: Hamilton Parish defaulted Saturday’s match at Warwick Academy to hand PHC to title

PHC’s women’s futsal team achieved an impressive treble at the weekend.

PHC clinched a third straight women’s futsal title with a game to spare without having to kick a ball.

The champions retained their title after rivals Hamilton Parish defaulted Saturday’s match at Warwick Academy.

Mathematically, PHC, who have not been beaten in nearly two seasons, cannot be overhauled by nearest rivals CP Chicas heading into their season finale with Somerset on Saturday.

PHC last suffered defeat during the inaugural women’s futsal league season in 2013 en route to their first title.

Also winning by default at the weekend was league newcomers Chicas over Somerset.

Chicas, who have impressed throughout their inaugural season in the league, and trail leaders PHC by four points, face third-placed Dandy Stars next weekend.

In the only match played at the weekend, Dandy Stars thumped Young Men’s Social Club 15-0.

Stars scored at will in a lopsided contest that was as good as over at the half with Stars firmly in the driver’s seat with a 6-0 cushion.

The floodgates were fully opened in the second half with Stars scoring a further nine unanswered goals to heap more misery on their lowly opponents.

Khyla Ramatar led the onslaught, banging in five goals with Dalia Ebbin and Leah Smith each scoring hat-tricks. Nia Christopher added a brace while Zahra Gibbons and Brianna Swainson grabbed one apiece.

Saturday’s final round of the women’s futsal league gets underway at 5pm at Warwick Academy.
