Pembroke woman denies cannabis charge

A Pembroke woman was bailed in Magistrates’ Court this morning after she denied possessing cannabis.

Ayesha Lake, 34, allegedly had 13.97 grams of the controlled drug on her person in Pembroke on December 6 last year.

Prosecutor Larissa Burgess told the court that the drugs were found in two plastic twists after Ms Lake, who was riding her motorcycle, was stopped and searched by Police.

Ms Burgess added that Ms Lake allegedly indicated that that was how she made her money.

When asked by magistrate Archibald Warner if she had anything to say, Ms Lake replied: “I plead not guilty; there’s nothing else to say.”

Ms Lake elected to be tried in Magistrates’ Court and Mr Warner granted $2,000 bail with a surety.

A trial date was set for April 23.
