Chewstick to raise funds at Folk Club

Special night: Deidra Lee Bean and Gavin Smith of the Chewstick Foundation. A number of Chewstick performers will appear at the Bermuda Folk Club this evening as part of fundraising efforts

It will be a Bermuda Folk Club evening with a difference tonight as a raft of performers from Chewstick take to the stage for a special fundraising open mic in support of The Chewstick Foundation.

The Folk Club is inviting the community to come along and hear the music and performances from artists, including Deondre, Jules, Djata, Raven, Jamie Petty, Sheri Scott, Gracie Edwards, Matthew Johnston. The evening of music will take place at the Spanish Point Boat Club, Pembroke, with doors opening at 7.30pm and music from 8pm.

Chewstick, which was formerly located on Elliot Street, Hamilton, is working on its new cultural hub at 81 Front Street. The organisation said it welcomed the offer from the Folk Club to participate in this evening’s folk club event, with part proceeds going toward Chewstick’s new cultural hub.

“We saw this as a great fit as we have always had the utmost respect for the Folk Club and are grateful for the opportunity to work together for this Saturday’s open mic and look forward to working more closely with them in the future,” said Gavin Smith, Chewstick’s executive director.

The Bermuda Folk Club will also supply a few of its regular performers, including singer and guitarist Milton Villamarin, from Ecuador.

Admission charge is $10.
