Ceci Wollmann stood out among the local fleet at last weekend’s inaugural Digicel Bermuda Dinghy Regatta.

The promising female sailor topped the single handed Laser Radial and Laser Radial Youth leaderboards and finished third overall in the Laser division to cap an impressive weekend of sailing in the Great Sound.

Making it a family affair was Wollmann’s brother, Mikey, who was third in the Laser Radial Youth division.

Local pair Rajae Woods and Brett Wright also made their presence felt in the Laser class. Woods was second in the Laser Full Rig and Wright third in the Laser Radial.

Paul de Souza, of Bahamas, was second in the Laser Radial and Laser Radial Youth fleets. Tobin Young, of Canada, won the Laser Full Rig and overall honours in the Laser division, the only titles to elude Bermuda’s grasp.

Elsewhere, Rockal Evans and girlfriend Christina Barnard conquered an all Bermuda fleet in the double handed Comet Class with Stevie Dickinson and Pat Young taking second and father and son pair Gladwin and Lozendro Lambert third.

In another fleet comprised of all Bermuda sailors, brothers Tre and Taj Maxwell captured top honours in the double handed RS Feva Class with George Buckley and Ben Edwards taking second and Kieran Swann and Kurt Repose rounding out the podium.

The single handed O’Pen Bic Class was also contested by an all-Bermuda fleet with top honours going to Aaron Kuhn. Blair Blakeney took second and Brandon Adams third.

Luke Madeiros topped an all Bermuda fleet in the single handed Optimist dinghy while second and third placed honours went to brothers Rian Geraghty-McDonnell and Fiachra McDonnell.

The regatta featured more than 100 sailors from North America and Bermuda that competed in five different classes.

Handing out awards at the prize giving held at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club were Oracle Team USA sailors Tom Slingsby and Finley Fowler along with representatives from sponsors Digicel Bermuda and AES Limited.

The Digicel Bermuda Dinghy Regatta originally formed part of International Race Week, which has now been divided into two separate regattas. The Bacardi Bermuda International Race Weekend featuring the larger keelboats will take place from November 19 to 21 in the Great Sound.

n Bermuda will be represented at the Sperry Charleston Race Week in South Carolina from April 16 to 19.

Flying the Island’s banner at the regatta, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, are Somers Kempe, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club commodore, and Chuck Millican.

Kempe is competing in the Viper 640 class along with crew Butch Agnew and William Thompson. Millican is competing in the J-70 class along with crew Carola Cooper and Dave Brining.

Kempe and Millican also competed for Bermuda at last month’s Bacardi Miami Sail Week in Biscayne Bay.
