Low turnout scuppers season opener

The start of the Bermuda Power Boat season will have to wait at least another week.

Yesterday’s season opening Dockyard Grand Prix, featuring entries from five classes, was cancelled because of a low turnout.

“Due to lack of numbers today’s race was cancelled,” Henry Talbot, the Bermuda Power Boat Association commodore, said.

Organisers had set aside this Sunday as an alternate race day, but whether the event will go on as planned will depend on entries.

“There will be a membership meeting on Thursday, 6:30pm at Docksiders to discuss this race and the Round the Island Race,” Talbot, who was elected as commodore at the association’s annual general meeting last November, added. The powerboat schedule will feature ten races over six months that will be held at various venues.

All races will start at 1pm with the exception of August’s Round the Island Race which gets under way at 2pm.
