Airport reopens after fire alarm

LF Wade International Airport has reopened after being briefly shut down because of a fire alarm going off at about 6.30pm.

There was no fire at the airport and an investigation is continuing into why the alarm was activated.

According to the airport duty officer the airport is now running as usual.

It is standard procedure to close the gates if a fire alarm goes off.

There was only a five-minute delay on the British Airways flight that was due to depart at 8pm.

One source said that traffic heading east towards the airport was backed up as far as Shelly Bay.

In other airport news a sinkhole measuring approximately four feet by six feet opened last night.
