Belco celebrates safety week

Belco has begun celebrate its third annual Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Week starting today.

The awareness week demonstrates the Belco’s commitment to promoting a healthy, safe and environmentally conscious work environment, and coincides with the International Labour Organisation’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work today.

The programme, being led by Belco’s occupational health, safety and environment department, carries the theme “Join in Building a Culture of Prevention on Occupational Safety and Health”. It began with an annual memorial ceremony, featuring an address to staff by Jeanne Atherden, the Minister of Health, Seniors and the Environment, and Wilbert Warner, a member of the Ascendant Group board of directors and corporate responsibility committee chairman.

The week also includes seminars for staff on topics such as safety management and lifestyle diseases.

The celebration will end on Friday with the launch of a six-week employee fitness challenge and the Ascendant Group Employee Health and Wellness Fair.

A number of health and wellness related organisations will take part in the fair.
