Warwick Academy students Mia Hazelwood, Year 6; Sydney Bucci, Year 6; and Alissa Outerbridge, Year 2; recently donated ten inches of their hair to Locks of Love.

Asked why they made this decision, their answer was simple — to help other children who were not as fortunate as themselves and battling cancer, so they can receive natural hairpieces.

Mia recently chatted with her mum about wanting to do something similar for the St Baldrick’s fundraiser but was unsure whether she could be brave enough to have her head shaved, so her mum suggested Locks of Love and Mia was on board and happy that she could help.

With no hesitation, off she went to her local hairdresser and had her red, curly hair donated to a child in need. Sydney received many compliments on the colour of her beautiful hair.

Her grandmother had chatted to her about how some children lost their hair due to illness and through Locks of Love enabled them to receive wigs made out of natural hair while they would go through treatment.

A minimum of ten inches of hair was required, so Sydney decided to grow her hair for one year to the appropriate length.

When the time came to cut her hair, she was naturally a little nervous, but knew that it was for a very worthy cause and now loves her new hairstyle.

Although Alissa is only seven and in Year 2, she simply wanted to make a difference in another child’s life by donating her hair to someone in need.

With the support of her family she happily had her long locks cut off and now shows off a cute bob.

We are extremely proud of these young students who through an act of kindness made a difference in the lives of other children.
