Students wage spellbinding war of words

On Tuesday, April 28, the 11th Mount Saint Agnes Academy Elementary Spelling Bee took place in the MSA auditorium.

There were 12 participants. Representing the third grade were Mia Baccaglio, Anijahe Martin, Jacob Madeiros and Aidan Medeiros. The four students from the fourth grade were Solana Richardson, Nicholas Weikl, Jake Roberts and Nicole Stovell.

Rico Cabral, Adriano Rymon-Lipinski, Kayla Tavares and Kyra Kucharik represented the fifth grade. There were also two backup students available from fourth grade — Kyra King and Cody Rego.

After 29 long, tense and challenging rounds, Nicole Stovell emerged as the first-place winner when she correctly spelled “appraisal” and “tablet”.

Second place was awarded to Adriano Rymon-Lipinski, while the third-place prize went to Solana Richardson.

The competition, organised by retired teacher Mrs Annette Boyle, was very entertaining as it was the longest spelling bee ever held at MSA. This demonstrated how much each contestant had spent in preparing for this competition.

Mrs Moench and Mrs DiGiacomo assisted as moderators. Congratulations to all participants for taking on the challenge!
