Everything about Huntley Manor is grand — especially the views.

Sit on your patio and watch as cruise ships enter Hamilton Harbour and ferries make their way through the Great Sound.

Stunning sunsets create the perfect backdrop for a cocktail.

The scenes from Huntley Manor, a Bermuda landmark because of its atypical red roof, have been on display for a privileged few since it was built 119 years ago.

The Middle Road, Paget home has since been “completely renovated and remodelled” into three apartments. Huntley Manor #3 is now listed for sale with Cranfields Property, for $1,685,000.

“Huntley Manor was built in 1896 and is a Victorian-style grade two listed building,” said realtor Sharon Cranfield. “Over the years it has had several auspicious owners and was even used during the Second World War, guarded by the Bermuda Rifle Corps to intern enemy nationals.” The home, located at 3 Tanglewood Road, was transformed into apartments in 2002.

“Looking very stately and set in almost two acres of parklike grounds is this familiar red-roofed landmark,” Mrs Cranfield said. “It comprises several magnificent reception rooms, two bedrooms with spectacular views, two large bathrooms and a modern kitchen with professional grade appliances and granite counters.”

The apartment has two patios; one offers views over the Great Sound the second, which is more sheltered, overlooks the landscaped grounds below.

Inside, the ceilings are high and the bedrooms have generous closets. There’s 2000 square feet of attic space and, as one might expect with such dramatic views on offer, the windows are expansive.

“[It’s] reminiscent of a bygone era,” the realtor added. “Reception rooms with high ceilings are finished with crown mouldings, crystal chandeliers reflect light and heavy drapes frame oversized French doors which access the deep patios.”

She continued: “Overlooking the Harbour and Great Sound the patio is extensive and has a true panoramic view — photos don’t tend to do it justice.

“It’s an interesting vista that changes according to time of day. Watch the ferries come and go, boats sailing, magnificent sunsets and, at night, the lights of Hamilton as they come to life across the harbour.”
