Student fashion show a charitable success

Students at CedarBridge Academy raised more than $1,000 for charity through a recent fashion show at the school.

A group of S4 students recently held the “Lumière” fashion show to highlight their own skills and bring attention to local charities including Scars, Harrington Sound Primary, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, Family Centre, the Sunshine League and the Salvation Army. As part of the show, students purchased clothing at The Barn and Bargain Box and donated the items back after the event.

According to a school spokeswoman, the event raised more than $700. However, with the help of teachers and school clubs, that figure nearly doubled the final count.

Teacher Neville Zuill yesterday extended a friendly challenge to the Berkeley Institute’s graduating class to match the donation value with the proceeds from their own fashion show, “Sankofa”.

He added: “After Berkeley matches or exceeds our donation we invite them into our school to help put together sandwiches and snacks for those in need, as we promised during the Friday night show.”
