Dear Sir,

In response to Al Seymour’s latest column (“Mindset change needed to make roads safer”, May 13), it seems to me there is an obvious way to easily reduce the deaths and injuries on the roads.

Why not limit all motorbikes to 50cc? Nearly all of the bad accidents come from bikes speeding and overtaking. Restricting bikes to 50cc would force speeds to reduce without involving any additional police presence.

The change could be phased in to avoid making all more powerful bikes obsolete immediately. Is there a good reason not to do this?
