Keep Bermuda Beautiful will be joining forces with the Bermuda Tourism Authority this Saturday for their annual Island-wide National Clean-up Day.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) is calling on hospitality stakeholders and its class of 400 certified tourism ambassadors to contribute to the effort.

“The Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) mission is fundamental to the tourism industry,” BTA CEO Bill Hanbury said. “Keeping Bermuda beautiful is essential to our success as a destination. That’s why we’re mobilising our own people to pitch in and recruiting other resources to help out as well.

“I hope when our tourism industry partners hear about the new tourism aspect of the Island-wide clean-up they’ll come out and join us.

“With reduced government resources it’s doubly important that the tourism industry steps up to help fill the gap. Ultimately we want every public beach, park and trail Island-wide to be pristine and picturesque for residents and visitors alike,” Mr Hanbury said.

KBB executive director Anne Hyde added: “KBB is very excited to team up with the BTA and focus on getting our beaches and parks in tip-top shape as we begin the summer season. We believe that Bermuda’s greatest asset is its natural beauty.

“The gorgeous pink sand beaches and lush wooded parks don’t stay pristine all by themselves. So it is wonderful to welcome the certified tourism ambassadors and other volunteers to participate.”

Ms Hyde added that even Oracle Team USA has signed up to volunteer for the event.

The BTA will have a total of three teams working at Clearwater Beach, Warwick Long Bay and Admiralty House Park, and tourism ambassadors can earn renewal points toward their re-certification in 2016 by participating.

Residents and visitors are welcome to help out with the event, which will be held from 9am to 12pm on Saturday. Teams should preregister with KBB and will be assigned a specific location.

If volunteers, who have not preregistered with KBB, clean their streets, they should contact officials afterwards, so that the collected debris can be picked up by Public Works or the Department of Parks.

This will also help KBB record the total statistics from the 2015 national clean-up effort.

Tourism industry partners who want to join the BTA at any of the three locations should preregister online or call Glenn Jones at 279-5588. The BTA’s preregistration will close at 5pm today.

Other volunteers interested in joining the event should call KBB to register at 295-05142 or e-mail kbb@northrock.bm.
