Injured pedestrians released from hospital

A three-year-old girl injured when a truck crashed into pedestrians at a bus stop has been released from hospital.

The child’s mother, a 34-year-old Pembroke woman, and her seven-year-old sister was also injured in the accident, which happened on Parsons Road, Devonshire, just after 5pm yesterday.

The child was “pinned by a truck” that struck pedestrians who were standing at the bus stop, according to a spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service.

The three were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment, but have since been discharged.

“It should be noted more than one person was hit by the truck, but the three-year-old appeared to be in the worst condition,” the spokesman said.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 5.22pm, he confirmed.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Sergeant Jamal Albuoy said fire personnel also attended the accident.

“Watch Commander Mark Taylor was in proximity of the incident and was first on the scene,” Sgt Albuoy said.

“Two female pedestrians were treated and transported to the hospital via ambulance for further medical attention as a result of the collision.”

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and anyone who may have witnessed what happened is urged to contact Constable Stephen Clyke on 295-0011.
