Dominican teen admits debit card offences

A Hamilton Parish teenager, who went on a shopping spree with a cloned debit card, admitted a string of dishonesty offences when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Dariel Reyes-Nuñez, 18, pleaded guilty to five counts of dishonestly obtaining goods including speakers, sneakers and sunglasses, worth a total of $986.80, from various stores in Pembroke on January 26.

He also pleaded guilty to making a false instrument, namely a debit card, on the same date.

At his first court appearance on February 23, Reyes-Nuñez, from the Dominican Republic, had pleaded not guilty to 11 counts alleging dishonesty offences.

In court today, he changed his plea to guilty on six counts. The Crown accepted his plea and offered no evidence on the other counts.

Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned sentencing to July 2, at which time co-accused Yan Infante-Almanzar, 21, will also be sentenced.
