The Bermuda Cricket Board has been presented with a cheque for $2,653.50 for its National Youth Academy as the Bermuda Electric Light Company handed out funds after last weekend’s Belco Cup.

The academy was chosen as the charity recipient to benefit from the gate proceeds from Sunday’s final at St David’s, where Southampton Rangers beat St David’s by three wickets.

Tournament sponsor Belco also presented a cheque for $3,000 to the Bermuda Cricket Board to assist with the costs of organising the competition.

“On behalf of the Board and our president Lloyd Fray, I want to give great thanks to Belco for allowing this partnership to continue,” Neil Speight, the Bermuda Cricket Board chief executive, said. “For the Youth Academy, obviously people understand we do a lot of development work in hard economic times, so every dollar coming in makes a big difference to what we can offer to our young children, so thank you again to Belco.”

Almost $4,000 was also presented by Belco to the four competing teams, with champions Rangers receiving $1,500, losing finalists St David’s $1,000 and semi-finalists Willow Cuts and Bailey’s Bay $500 each.

Alex Dore, named man of the match after his innings of 64 not out led Rangers to their ninth Belco Cup title, received a cheque for $300.

“We are happy to present just over $2,600 to the National Youth Academy,” Denton Williams, Belco’s chief operating officer, said
