Man, 53, admits Isis threats to Police

A 53-year-old man has been given a 12-month suspended prison sentence for threatening a guest worker and a police officer.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this week, Gregory Dill, of Devonshire, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour towards Christopher Kuchanny by aggressively approaching him and shouting: “Isis is coming. They should do to you what Isis does to people.”

He also admitted uttering threatening words towards a police officer by saying: “Isis is coming. Watch out, you see what they do out there, you see what they do with them beheadings, it’s coming.

“You watch out. If I see you round the back of town, you and me when you are not in uniform, then we will see.”

The offences took place in Par-la-Ville car park, in Pembroke, on February 25.

In court, Dill said that he had been an alcoholic at the time that he committed the offences, which he said he could not recall, and that he had since sought treatment for his addiction.

He also apologised to the complainant, the courts and his family.

Magistrate Archibald Warner called the offences particularly “offensive” and “disturbing”. He said that Dill was supposedly washing cars and harassing people for money, and that when the complainant refused to give him money, Dill started harassing him and the police officer who attended the incident, about their right to work in Bermuda.

“You cannot behave and speak to people that way,” Mr Warner said, adding that they “didn’t stow away, come here and steal your job”.

“They are here because they are contributing to this Island,” he said.

Mr Warner sentenced Dill to three months’ imprisonment on both counts, suspended for 12 months.
