Saltus students help earthquake relief

Weeks after earthquakes killed more than 8,000 people in Nepal, Saltus students have teamed up to raise $6,300 for urgent ongoing relief efforts.

“It is heart-warming to see how communities such as schools come together to help those in need in such a generous way,” Ann Spencer-Arscott, director of the Bermuda Red Cross, told students as she received their cheque.

All three departments of the school held grub days to muster $6,362.64, handed over by head of school Claire Charlemagne.

Directly after the April 25 earthquakes, Nepal’s Red Cross mobilised volunteers and supplies — including 42,630 tarpaulins; 1,858 family tents; 11,704 blankets; 4,026 hygiene kits and 405,950 water purification tablets.

Eight million people across the region have been affected and 2.8 million displaced.
