Songs, magic, salsa from hospitals staff

New Acute Care Wing at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital

Celebrating spring with magic acts, singing and dance, the staff of the Bermuda Hospitals Board aim to enliven public areas of both hospitals with performances over the next three weeks.

The BHB Spring Talent Showcase has been organised on the heels of the BHB Talent Show — a fundraising event that raised $13,000 last month for the Acute Care Wing. Eight staff are booked to give short performances of around 15 to 20 minutes during their lunch breaks.

It began yesterday with singing from Dawn Grant, a King Edward VII Memorial Hospital cafeteria worker. Today at 12.30pm, Andre Joseph, a lab technician, will give a magic show in the Acute Care Wing’s lobby.

Next Thursday, Connie Hill, a personal assistant to the CEO, will bring gospel to the KEMH general wing lobby at 12.30pm.

The showcase will end the first week of June with performances every day at 12:30pm. On Monday, June 1, Valerie Sherwood brings her guitar to the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.

Mr Joseph will reprise his magic show on June 2, while Preston Swan and Maria Burgess will sing on June 3 — both in the Acute Care Wing lobby — and dialysis nurses Hugh Murray and Lakeisha Bulford will perform in the KEMH healing garden on June 4. The week closes with a salsa dance class party for staff, led by physiotherapist and Clinical Manager Angela Gilbert.
