BFIS summer interns start programme

BFIS summer interns: Sydney Neal, visiting ISU students Stephani Arapidis and Courtney Guzzino, Zachary Friesen, Yuki Sun and Ciara Burrows.

A total of six undergraduate interns this week started a work experience programme aimed at attracting talent to the insurance and reinsurance industry.

The six — four Bermudians and two US students — are taking part in the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies’ (BFIS) intro-to-insurance scheme, which will see them visit 25 insurance and reinsurance firms and related organisations over the next three weeks.

The team will later make a presentation to the BFIS board and participating companies on what they have gained from the three-week experience.

A spokesman for BFIS said: “The BFIS summer intern programmes are open to students focused on careers in the insurance sector who are usually in either their junior or senior year at university, giving them the opportunity to learn about the insurance markets of either Bermuda, London, Chicago or Atlanta.”

He added that a total of 113 students have been selected to take part, with the majority going on to careers in the insurance and reinsurance industries.

Applications for next year’s programme open on January 1 next year at bermudascholarships.com.

Students interested in the financial world can attend the interns’ presentation and should contact info@bfis.bm for further information.
