Volunteers needed for archaeology dig

The Bermuda National Trust is calling for young volunteers to pitch in at an archaeological dig into centuries-old settlements on Smith’s Island.

The area is steeped in history, from the 1610 settlers Christopher Carter, Edward Waters and Edward Chard, to the whaling industry.

A team from the University of Rochester is excavating sites from May 25 to June 28, and Bermudians, especially students over 15, have been asked to volunteer. Volunteers are asked to pledge at least three days to the dig. The day begins at 8am, from Convict Bay, until 4pm.

Contact Dr Michael Jarvis at michael.jarvis@rochester.edu for details.
