Four university students with aspirations to work in the field of information communication technology have been given the change to hone their skills with three-month intensive internships at four companies on the Island.

When they successfully complete their internships they will be awarded a certificate of excellence to boost their career ambitions in the field.

The students are Charnae Richardson, Chris Wellman, Yuzaire Bean and Alexis Burgess, and they will begin interning with Logic, Nova, ACT and CCS respectively.

Minister of Economic Development, Dr Grant Gibbons met the students at the seventh annual Technology Leadership Forum at the Argus Building in Hamilton. He said to the students: “I hope that you are ready to work hard this summer as you will be challenged at every turn. Through your achievements and your work ethic so far, you have earned your spot in this internship.

“It is now your job to make sure that, over the next three months, you turn it into growth and progress towards your career aspirations. Make sure that it helps you move forward and attain more significant goals both professionally and personally.”

Technology Leadership Forum vice chairman Ronnie Viera said: “Information Technology is at the core of all businesses today so it is critical that we develop and grow our local talent in the skills and expertise required.

“As a result, we will continue to have a solid talent pool and knowledge base to draw on for the next era of technological developments and initiatives both in academia and in the business world.”

The Forum’s goal is to promote and foster technology education for college-level students.

The internship programme is sponsored by CCS, the Department of E-Commerce, Nova, Logic Communications, ICS, ACT, The Elbow Beach Resort, RenRe and IBM/BCS.
