Mixed bag of results for Sevens

Winning feeling: Bermuda beat the London Lemurs 33-12

A Bermuda Select squad made it through to the Plate Final of the Guinness Division at the Bournemouth 7s last weekend.

The invitational team had a mixed set of results, winning two games and losing three against some of the top Sevens sides in the UK.

Bermuda got off to a winning start in their group games, beating Los Blancos, a team put together by former England international Olly Barkley, with Chris Dennehy’s last-second try securing a 17-14 win.

However, defeats to Dorset Dockers, who thumped Bermuda 40-7, and a narrower 22-12 loss at the hands of Smashy Bears followed, putting Bermuda into the consolation competition.

The semi-final proved to be Bermuda’s best performance of the weekend as they beat London Lemurs 33-12.

Bermuda ran in five tries in all, with Henry Paddison crossing twice, and Joe Tomalin-Reeves, Dan Cole and Dennehy adding the others. Cole and Jack Parsons kicked four conversions between them.

In the Plate Final the Bermuda team came up against Y Baabarriaid, a strong Welsh side whose dominance of the breakdown set the foundation for a 19-0 win.
