Premier to speak at infrastructure event

Premier Michael Dunkley is to be a keynote speaker at an international summit for island countries in Miami.

Mr Dunkley, who is also Minister of National Security, will talk about Bermuda’s infrastructure plans for the upcoming America’s Cup sailing races at October’s Island Infrastructure Summit, sponsored by professional services firm KPMG.

The theme of this year’s conference, the third, is transforming island economies, including a discussion of public private partnerships to deliver major building projects, the proposed model for a new airport for Bermuda.

A spokesman for KPMG said: “Emerging trends in regional infrastructure will be featured in addition to exploring project delivery options with international infrastructure developers and leading infrastructure advisers.”

He added: “Maintaining a clear focus on the issues affecting island jurisdictions, this year’s summit explores how island economies can use alternative financing models, such as public private partnerships, to work with the private sector to deliver innovation and efficiencies in asset management and achieve accelerated infrastructure development that drives economic growth.”
