New South Korean trucks arrive

Truck offering: Auto Solutions' Harry Andrews (left) and Glen Smith

A new range of trucks from South Korea have landed in Bermuda.

And the rugged commercial range from automaker Hyundai is ready to go to work, according to Auto Solutions chief Glen Smith.

He said: “We have a range of 11 trucks which are all new to the Bermuda market.

“Hyundai now make 150 different trucks but the majority would be too big for Bermuda — but they can build any configuration people want to fit Bermuda’s roads and people’s needs.

“You name it, we can fit it to any specific needs. And their pricing is very competitive to a Japanese vehicle.”

The range runs from the light HA class H-100 pick up to the heavy HC class HD 72 dump truck.

But the basic chassis of all the vehicles can be adopted to several configurations, including refrigerated vehicles and water trucks.

Mr Smith added that all the vehicles carry a three-year warranty and parts are available from Miami, while significant spares are held at Auto Solutions’ Pembroke HQ.

He said: “Being in the commercial business, people don’t want to be down for any length of time. We can get parts overnight from Miami if needed.”

All the vehicles come with Hyundai’s three-year warranty, are right hand drive and can be serviced and repaired by Auto Solutions mechanics.

Mr Smith added that one of the small H-100 refrigerated trucks had already been bought by an Island fishing company to keep their catch in perfect condition en route to restaurants.

The firm is also offering the H1 panel van — which Mr Smith said was ideal for smaller maintenance companies or courier services.

He added that the panel truck was built on the same chassis as the Hyundai taxi model, already a common sight on Bermuda roads.

Auto Solutions’ Harry Andrews said: “The panel truck is going to be a really popular model — we have three on the way and two are already sold.”

Fast-growing Hyundai sold 98,000 trucks worldwide last year — and aims to get that figure up to more than 320,000 within the next five years built at its special trucks and speciality vehicles plant in South Korea, the world’s largest commercial vehicle plant.

Prices for the range available on-Island range from $26,995 for the H-100 pick up to $59,995 for dump trucks and water trucks, both based on the HD 72 platform.
