Bermuda cliff fall sprawl broadcast on MTV

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

It is probably not the way Bermudian musician Alex Marshall would have wanted to get on MTV: a painful-looking clip of an Admiralty House cliff jump gone horribly wrong.

He has been on MTV before, in music videos as dancehall artist Fiyah Marshall — and he knows how to laugh at himself.

Caught on camera last summer, Mr Marshall gamely takes a running leap at the cliff’s edge but flops off a jutting stone base before careening down to the water.

Appropriately enough, the wince-inducing dive made the hit show Ridiculousness. The clip airs about midway through episode 28 of this season. “It’s a bit of a shock when you first watch it,” said Andrew Kirkpatrick, of Burnt House Productions, who caught the stunt with partner Nhuri Bashir while filming a commercial. He added that Mr Marshall was fine afterwards. “It hurt but it wasn’t too bad,” confirmed Mr Marshall, who has been jumping off the popular spot since he was 10.

“It was all in good fun.”

Other angles of the dive are on YouTube with the artist’s permission, and you can see how close Mr Marshall was to making it over the stone pedestal.

The footage joins a similar clip in earning viral fame: a leap by Bermudian Shane Morrissey, who appears to narrowly escape being impaled by a windsurfer, was shown on a recent episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It’s always nice to see Bermuda take the international stage,” Mr Kirkpatrick said.
