Young generation rise to the occasion

A Hiscox Under-11 select side beat the Celebrities at the Hiscox Cricket Festival yesterday.

The Under-11 scored 166 in their 42 overs, and then bowled the Celebrities out for 152.

Rosie Simmons, scored 15 runs, took one wicket, and was named player of the match for her overall contribution to her side’s victory.

Before the game there was a skills and drills competition for the Island’s best young cricketers, with Jermal Proctor, of Warwick Workman’s Club, taking home the award for most skillful player and best fielder.

Sincere Robinson from Bailey’s Bay won the best batsman event and was also named a runner-up in the fielding category, as was Najee Edwards from Warwick Workman’s Club.

PHC pair David Goonerwardene and Antonio Wade took home runners-up prizes in the batting, while Jaidyn Paiva of Bailey’s Bay was named top overall bowler.

Keiron Richardson of Southampton Rangers, and Aciram Burgess of Cleveland, also took home bowling awards.

In the team event, Bailey’s Bay took home the awards for best fielding, best batting, and best bowling, while St David’s were named the most skillful team, and St George’s Prep the most disciplined.
