Games team in action

Jarryd Dillas will be warming up for the Island Games at Riddell's Bay

Bermuda’s eight-member team for this month’s NatWest Island Games in Jersey will all be in action in this weekend’s Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championships at Riddell’s Bay.

Mark Phillips will look to defend his men’s title and will have his Bermuda team-mates Jarryd Dillas, Will Haddrell and Damian Palangyandi as his main competitors, while a new women’s champion will be crowned in the absence of last year’s winner Tariqah Walikraam who has not entered.

Ebonie Burgess, Katrin Burnie, Linda Down and Elizabeth Parsons, who will represent Bermuda in Jersey from June 27 to July 3, will battle for the title at the Championships which start today.

Some 74 players have signed up to participate, 41 men and 12 women. The Championships will be played over 54 holes, with the final rounds taking place on Sunday.

There are 15 men and six ladies competing in the first flight, which will involve 36 holes of play tomorrow and Sunday.
