Warner takes schools gold

About 90 students competed at the BLTA Schools Tournament

Antonio Warner, Rupert Lunn, and Michael Spence-Durrant took gold in the three main categories at the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association’s Schools Tournament last week.

Eight schools were represented at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium, with a total of almost 90 students participating, far exceeding the expected registration of about 60.

The tournament was the culmination of the Tennis in the Schools programme.

In the Advanced Group, Warner, of Warwick Academy, took gold, Tayla Horvan of Saltus Grammar School, won silver, while Connie Betts of Warwick Academy finished third.

Lunn won the Intermediate Group for St George’s Prep, with Saltus student Louis Hammond claiming silver and Megan Johnston of Somersfield landing the bronze. The Beginners Group had two Victor Scott students in the top spots, with Spence-Durrant claiming gold and Nazarie Daley with silver. Enste Nico Davis of Northlands finished with bronze.

Other schools represented were Prospect, West End, and West Pembroke.
