Fresh. This week I have had an experience that once again has reinforced my feeling that taking a fresh look at things is critically important and even enlightening. The Bermuda Diabetes Association brought a team of executives from the International Diabetes Federation together with several of the Young Leaders in IDf to Bermuda this past week.

Several sessions were held where they presented material that forces you to look at the real reasons for the epidemic of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases around our world. We all have our biases and our opinions about things but these talks made me take a fresh look at what I thought were infallible concepts and upon doing so, made me realise that the facts they presented had me and others looking at this problem with a new perspective.

What feelings or opinions do you hold could be challenged by taking a fresh look at all of the information that is available as we look for solutions. This is just another way of saying that we always continue to learn as new information becomes available.

So start today and take a fresh look! The Bermuda Diabetes Association also wants to congratulate our own Debbie Jones on being named an OBE — a wonderful honour for her work on Diabetes.
