Family fun at annual Portuguese Festival

• Good family fun is in store in St George’s at the 20th Annual Portuguese Festival of the Holy Spirit on Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5.This will take place in King’s Square from from 7pm until 11pm on the Saturday and from 5pm until 11pm on the Sunday. Local entertainment will be provided by the Travellers, Caroline Araujo and Friends, Portuguese Folklore Dancers, Filipino Dancers, Vasco Da Gama Dancers, Sara Pacheco, Michelle Madeira, Stephanie Tavares and Milu Pacheco.This event will feature Portuguese food and baked goods for sale and entry is free. • Come out and be a part of the glitz and glamour of the 2015 Miss Bermuda Pageant at the Fairmont Southampton on Sunday, July 5. Doors open at 7pm and from 8pm you can enjoy first class local entertainment and find out who reigning queen Lillian Lightbourn will crown as her successor to represent Bermuda at the 2015 Miss World Contest. Tickets are $65 for general admission, $85 for gold, $105 for patrons and are available from www.BDAtix.bm. • Let’s get ready to rumble at a night of boxing as Extreme Entertainment present Knock Out Fight Night in the Victualling Yard at Royal Naval Dockyard on Saturday, July 11. Gates open at 7pm with the under card starting at 8pm. This double-header main event will feature Bermuda’s own golden glove champion Nikki Bascome against Claude le Duprier of the US and, representing the US is duo female knockout sensation, Lena Taylor vs KirunisDulei. This event will have heavy hitters, with bouts that go toe to toe, in an all-out, non-stop punching battle. Who will prevail in this tough competition? Promising to be a knockout spectacular with hooks, blows, and jabs, it will also feature Bermuda’s amateur boxers in bouts with Nazori vs Le Jai Tucker, Tyler Christopher vs Omar Dill, Robert Somner vs Kah Simmons, J Jimeney vs K Warner, Vliad George Raul vs Anthony Stoneham, George Cook vs Stephen Dill, Andre Lamb vs Mike Smith, Mathew Tannack vs Troy Wilson, and many more. Fight fans can also expect food service from Bone Fish and Frog and Onion, a bar, popcorn and free giveaways. Regular tickets are $60 and VIP tickets are $80. VIP tickets have limited availability includes ringside seating, waiter service, complimentary drink and VIP parking. • The Learning Disabilities Association of Bermuda (LDAB) invites you to join them for a night of trivia and fun at their Charity Quiz Night at The Docksider Pub and Restaurant on Saturday, July 18. Hosted by Quiz Master Mike Bishop, the evening will begin with dinner and drinks at 7pm, followed by the quiz itself at 8pm. Pub meals for $25 and a cash bar will be available, as well as a fabulous array of raffle prizes. Tickets are $50 per team, for a maximum of five people, and are available from www.BDAtix.bm. •Unleash your creativity with Bermuda’s natural resources at the 20th Annual Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition on Saturday, September 5. This will be at the usual location of beautiful Horseshoe Bay. Sculpting begins at 10am and finishes at 4pm, followed by judging and an awards presentation. Available categories, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, are Children, Teenagers, Families, and Adults/Open/Company/Organiser/Tourist. Not sure where to start? Well, you’re in luck as on Saturday, August 29, from 4pm until 5pm, and Friday, September 4, from 6pm until 7pm, you can learn the tips, tricks, tools and techniques at the free Sand Sculpting Clinics, also on Horseshoe Bay.
