Smith fails in Open bid

Tough day: Smith

Camiko Smith’s attempt to qualify for this year’s Open Championship did not go as planned yesterday.

The Bermuda golfer struggled to a three-over-par 74 at Hankley Common Golf Club finishing in a tie for 24th place.

There were eight qualifying spots available at the Surrey course, with one-under securing the last of those.

Smith got off to a bad start, recording a double-bogey six on the first hole, and although he managed to recover his round, he was left with too much to do.
