Flying the flag: Leverock

Kamau Leverock got to do something most cricketers can only dream of yesterday.

The Bermuda all-rounder played at Lord’s in the MCC Universities Challenge Final for Cardiff against Leeds/Bradford.

Unfortunately for Leverock the game did not go his side’s way in a 117-run defeat, but he took a wicket as Leeds/Bradford made 366 for four in their 50 overs.

The damage was largely done by William Root, brother of England star Joe Root, who scored 135 off 96 balls, hitting nine sixes and 11 fours in the process.

In reply, Cardiff lost wickets at regular intervals, and while several batsman passed 30, Leverock included, none went on to make a big score. By the time Leverock came to the crease with his side 162 for six from 29 overs Cardiff’s chances of winning had all but gone.

Leverock’s 33 from 26 balls was little more than a cameo, and Cardiff were eventually all out for 249 in 40.4 overs.
